Research and Planning: My Target Audience

The main age for my target audience is 15-21 years, this is because my music magazine will be based on the genre 'electro'. It is usually younger people who like this type of music and are under the influences of listening to it e.g. 'Lady GaGa'.
The gender that is more likely to read my magazine is women, however it will also target men as well as there are many elctro artists around at this time such as '3OH!3' and 'Magnetic Man'.
The people who read my magazine are likely to be unemployed and will be students, however there may be some people who read it who have a part-time job.
The class that more fits my magazine is working class this is because they have the money and time to read my magazines and are more likely to be interested in these type of artists and the gig's they do. The people who by my magazine are more likely to only have money from 'ema' or a 'part-time job', however there may be some students who come from different backgrounds who will buy my magazine therefore targeting the middle class as well.
As my magazine is mostly targeted at student's, interests are going to vary from cinemas, bowling, shopping, gig's and going out with friends. They have have interests in this type of music more professionally or maybe in some type of club e.g. a sports team.
The people who read my magazine will most likely have an outlook of going to university in the future or going out of college after they have A Level's and getting a full-time job or going onto an internship. The picture above shows the typical types of students who would buy my music magazine.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Analysis

This magazine cover known as 'Billboard' has a picture of Ke$ha dominating it. The reason as to why this is relevant to my music magazine is because Ke$ha is a current artist
who sings electro/pop/dance music. Students who see a magazine cover with Ke$ha on the front know what they're expecting to see in the contents. The front of the music is very bright, highlighting that the music that it features is very much the pop genre. The picture of Ke$ha shows her all dressed up - like she is in her music videos- also showing the conventions that she conveys in her music. The target audience for this magazine is likely to people who have an interest in nights out, as this is where this music is mostly played. The age of the people who listen to this genre of music are likely to be people aged 15-25. The layout of this magazine cover is very simple and relates to the picture and to the genre of the magazine. For example the article titles are in columns as are most magazine covers. The colours on this cover also match the colour of 'Ke$ha's nose ring, the colour of her hair and the colours used to fill in the letters of the title 'Billboard'. The shot of Ke$ha on this cover is a close up showing a smirk on her face. This shows that she dominates the magazine cover and is also dominating the genre of electro music at this current time. The people who but this magazine are likely to be students, unemployed people up to semi skilled workers.

The target audience for this magazine cover is likely to be people who are students aged between 15-25 years of age. Gender can be either for this type o magazine as it is electro music - associated with clubbing. The life style of the people who buy this magazine are mostly people who like to go out and have a good time with their friends. Their outlook on life is most likely to be getting a good job, the people listening to this music are students therefore most of them are in college or university. This magazine represents another band who are hitting the charts with their current music and are having success. The layout of this magazine is simple and fits the genre of it as well. There is a simple white background which makes the band 'Magnetic Man' stand out as they are all dressed in black. The title is also black, therefore standing out on the plain white background. the name of the article is white and is pasted across the band which makes it stand out. The other names of the articles are pasted down the sides of the cover in black and are in a column, making it simple for the reader to see and therefore know what they are going to be getting in the contents when they buy this magazine. The picture of the band is a medium long shot which shows that they are all in dressed in black and are all wearing sunglasses, maybe showing the bond between them is strong as they are all the same or because bright colours would not fit with the background or the black font. The people who but this magazine are likely to be students who are in college and university, however most of them may have a part time job.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Questionnaire Results

These are the results of my questionnaire I have tallied them up into a pie chart and this is the outcome. By doing this I can see clearly what my audience wants to see in my music magazine. I have asked them what do they think would be a suitable title and the most popular answer was 'Shockwaves'. I also checked if my target audience go to concerts on a regular basis and i found out that five people do whereas four people don't and one person didn't answer. I also found out that by asking fiver girls and boys that their most popular artists are 'Lady GaGa', 'The Coutenners' and 'The Script'. I also found out that five people do currently buy music magazines, however the other five don't. The most popular Music Tv Station which these fiver girls and boys watch seems to be 'Viva'. All ten of them download music off 'iTunes' on a regular basis. They answered equal on the fact that they'd like a female or male to be the star of the cover. the most popular genre of music for these five girls and boys is 'Indie'. I also found out the most of the ten people I asked to fill in my questionnaire fall in the '15-17 age category'.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Questionnaire

This is the questionnaire I have put together so that I can use this too make my music magazine when it comes to the coursework. I will tally up these results so that I can then look at the data and use it to see what my audience wants me to put in my magazine, therefore catering it to their tastes.
