Research and Planning: Weather Condintions

Dues to the weather problems last week I was not able to make it into college. This has therefore disabled my original plans that I had written about in a post the week before. As a result of this I know I'm behind, I will stay behind and catch up with work in my frees and lunch breaks.

Research and Planning: Draft of Double Page Spread

This is the double page spread for my magazine 'shuffle' I have used columns once again and a samll font so that I can fit in more words. I plan to either have my picture in the middle of the text or above/under the title of the article.

Research and Planning: Draft of Contents Page

This is a draft of my contents age for my music magazine 'Shuffle'. Once again I have done the first piece on paper. The font on this piece is how I'd like to have mine done if I can find the right style. I have gone for the typical conventions of any other contents page and have chosen columns for my articles that will feature in this. I have also added other features that are not mentioned on the cover.

Research and Planning: Risk Assesment

These are the scans of my Risk Assessment for where I took my images at the Orange River for my double page spread.

Research and Planning: Draft Of Music Magazine

This is a draft of my music magazine shuffle. this is only a rough version drawn on paper. There is also the draft of my Music Magazine 'Shuffle' that I have made on photo shop. there are a few slight changes that I have made on the photo shop version. I have moved some of the text around as I thought it suited the magazine better if it was on the other side. I have also found a different font, this is because photo shop does not supply the font that looks similar to mine. And the fonts that do match this 'graffiti' style of writing is too difficult to read and therefore would not appeal to my target audience as the title would be unclear. I have also not included the 'style tips from Louise Ward' on my front cover. I have not included this as there was not enough room to put it n the cover without making the font of the title smaller. If I did this it would not be good for my magazine as the title is supposed to be the biggest thing on your front cover as well as the model you use.

Research and Planning: Location Recces

These are the images for my location recces. The first image is of Wereneth Low, which is where I took my pictures for my front cover.

The second image is of the studio at Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College, this is where I took the pictures for my contents page.

The third image is of the Orange River and this is where I took the pictures for my double page spread.

Research And Planning: Current Electro-Pop Artists

These are some pictures of current artists hitting the charts with electro pop music.

Research and Planning: My Plan For the Week

This will be my schedule for the week and I will get the tasks that I have written down completed.
This week I would like to get all of my test shots completed - I will do this by using a camera and going out and getting pictures of clothes that I have or that the models I will be using have.
I will also get my new monthly podcast completed - I will do this by using Garage Band.
I would also like to get the video recording podcast completed as well - I will do this by using Garage Band.
I would also like to get all of my models to sign the actor release forms, the risk assessment sheets etc.
I would also like to get my location/s sorted for where I will take my pictures for my magazine 'shuffle'.

Research and Planning: Shot Lists

These are a lost of the shots I plan to use on my Magazine Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread. On my front cover I think I would like to use a low/high angle shot. There will also be an eye level shot on my front cover. On my contents page there will be an aerial shot and a few close ups. My double page spread will have an establishing shot.
I would like to use a High Angle shot is because that way you can see the whole person and see the actions that there doing. This will be good for my magazine as it is going to be based on electro music. If I used a Low Angle shot this would work also, but the inequalities with this is that you may not be able to see the model's face.
The Eye Level shot would work on the front cover of another picture of a different feature as you would need to see the person's face for the feature 'fashion tips/style guide'. You would need to see the person's face for this feature as anyone reading a feature such as this will not take fashion advice from someone who does not look good.
An aerial shot would work for my contents page as I was thinking I would like to get a shot of a club or a gig, therefore representing the music ad also the meanings that come from this genre as well. The Close-Up's would work as on the contents page I would like some other little pictures that will give an indicator to the reader of what they are going to be reading about in this article.
I would like to use an establishing shot on my double page feature and the shot I would get for this would have to be of a concert of some other people in a studio making them look like their in a band for electro music. I need a setting for this as it will be the main piece.

Research and Planning: Costumes and Props list

These are some pictures of the clothes I plan to use on my models for my magazine. Some of the pictures will actually be clothes they are going to wear in the pictures I take.

Research and Planning: Test Shots

These are some pictures I have taken and I don't actually know if I will use any of them yet, but It will at least give me an idea of what type of shots I will actually need to use.

Research and Planning: Media Work Schedule

This is my schedule, which shows the work I need to complete and the dates/weeks when I will have it completed for. Having this schedule will help me be more organised and will let me know the tasks I need to start and when I have to have them finished for.

Research and Planning: Contents Page Analysis

This is the contents page from a music magazine called 'Vibe'. The picture on the front of the cover is of Ciara an artist who is now becoming more of an adult.
The colours in this piece are a key feature there are more dark colours than light. This could show the difference in becoming an adult from being a teenager. The costume is a main prob on this page as it shows Ciara not being as innocent as she once was. It reveals so much of her body as we can tell her legs are completely bare. Her legs are also up in the air in a 'v' shape which is also over the 'V' on the page. The 'V' has been placed there as that is the beginning letter of the title. Going back to the colours they also represent the genre of this magazine.
The genre of this magazine is 'Hip Hop' or 'R'N'B'. You can tell this from the colours used in the magazine which are white and black, there is also some grey/silver.
The type of audience to buy this magazine would most likely be students aged 16-25. The artist in this feature is also aimed that audience. The people who but this magazine are likely to be unemployed or if they do have a job the well only be un-skilled workers.
The narrative of this piece only comes from the features it talks about. The main one being Ciara and about her life one of the things she talks about is 'sex' as we can see from the slug line. Ciara has quoted many a time before that 'I won't have sex until I'm married'. Has that changed? We don't know, but form the clothes she is wearing in this picture it draws up conclusions that maybe contradict her past phrases. There is also an article on the band 'Boys To Men' which is not aimed at many students, however some do like them so this maybe changes the genre area as this band is more aimed at older people and most definitely not R'N'B. There are also fashion tips on here. Proving that this is aimed at students as they are targeted for clothes more than any other range of people as students always have money.

Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Analysis

This story is about Lily Allen defending herself from comments made by other artists.
The layout of this magazine shows the genre punk/rock. The title of this article has been done by cutting out letters and then putting them altogether. They are all bold and in capitals, highlighting that Lily Allen is angry with the comments that have been said about her. She is wearing a checkered shirt which is red, black and green, conveying the colours of punk. The shot is a medium close-up. The way she has been placed shows that she is not happy and the body language is showing that she really doesn't care whats been said about her and is telling the people who made the comment that their wrong. the colours all fit together being black and red, also can be used as colours to represent anger.
The genre of this magazine layout is punk/rock.
The colours used stand out as the background is a plain white. This makes the red and black more dominant on the page and easy to see. The article is done in columns and the article is not about Lily Allen's music, but is actually talking about her life outside of that and what people think of her. The structure shows a title on one side and the picture on the other which takes up the space of half a page showing how important this image is. Then there is the article itself which is done in a small font so that more information can be put down on the page. The article is also under the title so its right there in the reader's face.
This article reaches its target audience as the colours represent the genre of the music Lily Allen is involved with. It also has connotations such as the colours represent anger and darkness at whoever has annoyed this artist and it also represents the actual people who listen ot this type of music and associate themselves with this style of clothing.

Research and Planning: My Target Audience

The main age for my target audience is 15-21 years, this is because my music magazine will be based on the genre 'electro'. It is usually younger people who like this type of music and are under the influences of listening to it e.g. 'Lady GaGa'.
The gender that is more likely to read my magazine is women, however it will also target men as well as there are many elctro artists around at this time such as '3OH!3' and 'Magnetic Man'.
The people who read my magazine are likely to be unemployed and will be students, however there may be some people who read it who have a part-time job.
The class that more fits my magazine is working class this is because they have the money and time to read my magazines and are more likely to be interested in these type of artists and the gig's they do. The people who by my magazine are more likely to only have money from 'ema' or a 'part-time job', however there may be some students who come from different backgrounds who will buy my magazine therefore targeting the middle class as well.
As my magazine is mostly targeted at student's, interests are going to vary from cinemas, bowling, shopping, gig's and going out with friends. They have have interests in this type of music more professionally or maybe in some type of club e.g. a sports team.
The people who read my magazine will most likely have an outlook of going to university in the future or going out of college after they have A Level's and getting a full-time job or going onto an internship. The picture above shows the typical types of students who would buy my music magazine.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Analysis

This magazine cover known as 'Billboard' has a picture of Ke$ha dominating it. The reason as to why this is relevant to my music magazine is because Ke$ha is a current artist
who sings electro/pop/dance music. Students who see a magazine cover with Ke$ha on the front know what they're expecting to see in the contents. The front of the music is very bright, highlighting that the music that it features is very much the pop genre. The picture of Ke$ha shows her all dressed up - like she is in her music videos- also showing the conventions that she conveys in her music. The target audience for this magazine is likely to people who have an interest in nights out, as this is where this music is mostly played. The age of the people who listen to this genre of music are likely to be people aged 15-25. The layout of this magazine cover is very simple and relates to the picture and to the genre of the magazine. For example the article titles are in columns as are most magazine covers. The colours on this cover also match the colour of 'Ke$ha's nose ring, the colour of her hair and the colours used to fill in the letters of the title 'Billboard'. The shot of Ke$ha on this cover is a close up showing a smirk on her face. This shows that she dominates the magazine cover and is also dominating the genre of electro music at this current time. The people who but this magazine are likely to be students, unemployed people up to semi skilled workers.

The target audience for this magazine cover is likely to be people who are students aged between 15-25 years of age. Gender can be either for this type o magazine as it is electro music - associated with clubbing. The life style of the people who buy this magazine are mostly people who like to go out and have a good time with their friends. Their outlook on life is most likely to be getting a good job, the people listening to this music are students therefore most of them are in college or university. This magazine represents another band who are hitting the charts with their current music and are having success. The layout of this magazine is simple and fits the genre of it as well. There is a simple white background which makes the band 'Magnetic Man' stand out as they are all dressed in black. The title is also black, therefore standing out on the plain white background. the name of the article is white and is pasted across the band which makes it stand out. The other names of the articles are pasted down the sides of the cover in black and are in a column, making it simple for the reader to see and therefore know what they are going to be getting in the contents when they buy this magazine. The picture of the band is a medium long shot which shows that they are all in dressed in black and are all wearing sunglasses, maybe showing the bond between them is strong as they are all the same or because bright colours would not fit with the background or the black font. The people who but this magazine are likely to be students who are in college and university, however most of them may have a part time job.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Questionnaire Results

These are the results of my questionnaire I have tallied them up into a pie chart and this is the outcome. By doing this I can see clearly what my audience wants to see in my music magazine. I have asked them what do they think would be a suitable title and the most popular answer was 'Shockwaves'. I also checked if my target audience go to concerts on a regular basis and i found out that five people do whereas four people don't and one person didn't answer. I also found out that by asking fiver girls and boys that their most popular artists are 'Lady GaGa', 'The Coutenners' and 'The Script'. I also found out that five people do currently buy music magazines, however the other five don't. The most popular Music Tv Station which these fiver girls and boys watch seems to be 'Viva'. All ten of them download music off 'iTunes' on a regular basis. They answered equal on the fact that they'd like a female or male to be the star of the cover. the most popular genre of music for these five girls and boys is 'Indie'. I also found out the most of the ten people I asked to fill in my questionnaire fall in the '15-17 age category'.
